Derailed is the saga of a highly effective entrepreneur reduced by mere claims of misbehavior, his subsequent conflict with an American legal system that categorically rejected him a fair trial. A “natural” business owner, Jerry began a $20 million dollar health care company from scratch, then took control of a corrupt, bankrupt mail order drug store and within one year turned it into a $30 million dollar business. And all of that would have been just the beginning. When Jerry discovered himself entangled in a legal battle over accusations of sexual assault brought by the kids of an evangelical pastor in one of the cradles of the spiritual right, it all came crashing down. As a gay guy extremely successful in company, Jerry did not fit the moralist design of the prevailing “neighborhood.” In short, he wasn’t expected to be successful. This book details Jerry’s early life, the rapid increase of his effective health care companies, and the fall that came with the criminal indictment. Derailed is an effective commentary on the hypocrisy of an American society founded on the concepts of equality and tolerance, yet soaked in institutionalized bias, and a stinging indictment of our system of courts and jurisprudence.
